In the meantime, your receipt acts as your certificate for 30 days. Processing time for other types may be up to 4 weeks.
It is not lawful to work in the trade while having an expired certificate. Renewal fees are non-refundable. Before you can renew, you must complete 48 hours of approved electrical basic trainee classes. Search by your name or certificate. Contact your provider if you are missing credit for a class you completed. Certificates of completion are not acceptable proof of completion. Under guidance from a journey-level trainer, Water Pipe Worker apprentices: Repair broken water mains, install new service connections, perform routine maintenance, and respond to emergency situations within the water system. Work around heavy equipment such as backhoes, dump trucks and excavators.
Operate tools and large equipment. Perform work in confined spaces. Work with our field crews throughout the city and in the watersheds. Develop communication skills and play an active role in investigating and resolving customer complaints. Please note, as drivers of commercial vehicles, federal regulations require that Water Pipe Workers be entered into a random drug and alcohol testing pool. Under guidance from a journey-level employee, Drainage and Wastewater apprentices will also learn and be expected to: Operate tools and large equipment, and work around heavy equipment such as backhoes, dump trucks and excavators.

As an apprentice, you work as a member of an assigned crew, under the supervision of journey-level workers. Crew assignments are rotated regularly to give you experience participating in hands-on training with equipment from your trade. Apprentices attend evening academic classes to get more in-depth instruction on the theory and practice of their craft.
You will attend a minimum of hours of related academic instruction each year. Classes are held weekly, four hours per week from September — June, and include homework, projects, and test preparation.
After completion of required on-the-job training and classroom instruction, you will take City and Union required exams.
